- Description
There are many different types of yoga. Yoga means the system, and yogi means the person who practises the system. The object of yoga, the ultimate goal, is to understand Krishna. Therefore Krishna consciousness means to practice the topmost type of yoga.
This topmost yoga system was described by Krishna in the Bhagavad-gita to His most intimate friend Arjuna. In this book Srila Prabhupada expands this idea for the benefit of society at large.
Although there are many types of yoga practices, the Vedic literature explains that no matter which practice you choose, success is only achieved when bhakti is present. There are many yoga systems, and many yogis practicing them. Yoga means the system, and Yogi means the person who practices the system. But the ultimate goal of all yoga is to understand Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Therefore, Krishna consciousness, or bhakti-yoga, is the topmost yoga system.
